20 Of The World’s Most Secluded (And Beautiful) Beaches

12. Hidden Beach (aka Playa del Amor), Mexicohidden-beach-flickr-fredsharples-ballenaIf you are looking for a beach that is truly unusual and off the beaten path – the Hidden Beach in Mexico will certainly qualify.
The Spanish name for it is Playa De Amor, which means the “Beach of Love.” The beach is located on the Marieta Islands which is about 22 nautical miles west of Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.
One thing that makes it unique is that the beach is only accessible by swimming through a 40- to 50-foot tunnel. The island is also part of a UNESCO site and a natural park.
The beach itself is very unusual because it is actually surrounded by an overhanging rock ledge that opens in a complete circle above it. It is believed that the beach was actually made by Mexican artillery when the island was being used for target practice a few years ago, and then erosion took over from there.
The sandy beach is nothing like anything you have seen before and you can go swimming or snorkeling in the crystal clear water. In order to visit the beach, which is part of the Marietas Islands and protected by the government of Mexico, a permit will have to be obtained first.
Around the island visitors will be able to see some amazing wildlife, including humpback whales, manta rays, and dolphins. The island has rather suddenly become more popular because it is being promoted through various social media sites and more people are discovering this fantastic place.
